Fear of Flying
Now that the holiday season is in full swing, many people are having to face up to their fear of flying. The holiday that was booked early with enthusiasm becomes more of an ordeal to be faced as the date for departure gets nearer. Fear of flying is common place in both adults and children. A frightened child can be just as much a problem for the adults as the adults being frightened themselves.
Hypnotherapy - hypnosis coupled with counselling, is a very effective way of overcoming phobias. A phobia is defined as ‘an abnormal fear or aversion’. To be feel a little frightened or apprehensive of flying is a very normal reaction but for some people this grows into an abnormal fear or fear that is so large that it is quite debilitating. For some1the fear is so great that it may actually prevent them from flying at all. Holidays are naturally social events and so this fear can be very public and also limit the possibilities for holidays for other members of the family.
How does hypnotherapy help?
I am able to help people using a "fast phobia cure. Although the procedure is complex, it uses the following elements of visualisation. Clients are asked to visualise a pleasant location in which they feel safe and secure. Once this situation has been recalled vividly, they are helped separate the emotional experiences of flying from the actual events. By imagining the whole sequence of events that lead taking a are helped to reduce their fear responses. The events or triggers for the fear become neutralised.
Clients are also provided with a personal cassette tape that they can play to themselves during a flight in order to help them to re-establish feelings of calm. So with one or two sessions clients are usually able to successfully face a situation which previously would have ruined their holiday.
