Counselling Supervision
All counsellors and hypnotherapists are required to have regular monthly sessions of supervision. This will become essential as regulatory processes develop. There are many reasons why this form of monitoring of practice is important. Firstly it is designed to protect the clients. When a therapist attends supervision they talk confidentially to another (usually more experienced therapist) about the cases which they are currently working on. The clients are not made specifically identifiable to the supervisor.
The therapist will discuss with their supervisor the approach they are using. The supervisor will explore with the therapist if there are alternative ways of working or ways in which the interventions can be more precise. In some cases the therapist will need to offload any emotional responses that have occurred while working with a client. In this way not only are the clients kept safe but the therapists also have their emotional needs catered for.
I have attended a 10 day supervision course run by Centre Training International School of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.
With my M.Sc. in Educational Psychology, 18 years working as a local authority educational psychologist and my 6 years in Private practice as a hypnotherapist , I am well qualified to help practitioners. I am a registered member of the UKCP and so this qualification will make any supervision count as part of your training and continuing professional development. There are very few therapists in Bath and the surrounding counties with this level of qualification. I also have had experience in working in the voluntary sector as a counsellor for the young peoples' charity Off the Record, in Bath. Coming from a background of varied approaches I am uniquely qualified to offer supervision in a broad range of approaches not tied to one particular school of thought.
